What an Entrepreneur Does While Their Team is Hunkered Down
If you want to see who cares about the company and your customers, look at who is working and check in with everyone.
Half of my team is in Florida waiting for Hurricane Milton to arrive to their areas. This is what I am seeing. People checking in with each other. Team members work because they are hunkered and still have power. My team outside of the state are available offering help with the workload and offering to take shifts or cover while other team members are going to safety or prepping to protect their homes against damages.
This is what I noticed. The people that I depend on take care of our customers well. Are the same people that are taking care of each other. If they moved to safety they continued to work. The people that are on Facebook partying while others are caring for each other will be remembered by the whole team.
What am I doing?
Well, I got myself and my business partner safe. W
hile our home and business offices could be totally destroyed.
But things don’t matter, PEOPLE matter. We may lose more things because we are responsible for our customers and our employees.
If we don’t make certain that payroll goes out, bookkeeping is caught up, infrastructure issues are resolved, and customers know we are here to help them then who can do this at this time? If you are truly an entrepreneur, you are already thinking about how do we manage if half the staff cannot return to work in days or weeks? What are the clean up and restart priorities? If you don’t have this mindset and you are at a hurricane party and you are a key member of a company, then don’t consider yourself an entrepreneur, you are simply a team member. Entrepreneurs are planners, fighters and self-motivated. Entrepreneurs kick ass.
Me today, I am checking in to make all are safe. Planning for the worst, hoping for the best and getting ready to have boots on the ground as soon as possible.
