Will AI Strip Away All of Our Jobs?
Will AI strip away all of our jobs? I do not believe so. However, I do believe AI will fundamentally change many jobs and reshape how work is performed across nearly every industry.
Well-designed and successfully executed AI projects can significantly improve a company's bottom line through increased efficiency, reduced manual effort, and faster decision-making. However, organizations can also exceed budgets very quickly, often without realizing it until the invoices arrive. For that reason, AI initiatives should be managed with the same discipline and oversight applied to any other business-critical project.
Companies should continue following proven project management practices. Create detailed specifications, clearly define responsibilities, and ensure multiple team members are not unknowingly working on the same problems. Maintain regular stand-up meetings, share successes and failures openly, and continuously evaluate project progress. Good project management does not become less important because AI is involved—it becomes more important.
Organizations should also carefully control access to AI tools. Employees should have access based on business need and job responsibilities rather than open availability to everyone. Unrestricted access can create unnecessary exposure to both data security risks and unexpected financial costs. Without appropriate governance, companies may find themselves dealing with compliance issues, data leakage concerns, and escalating software expenses.
One misconception about AI is that it is always inexpensive. While many AI platforms offer free or low-cost entry points, these options are generally suitable only for light usage. As organizations begin utilizing AI more extensively, costs can grow quickly. Projects can become disrupted when teams rely on free versions that impose usage limits, resulting in lost time and reduced productivity.
Professional AI subscriptions provide greater capabilities, but they also introduce additional expenses. Token usage can increase rapidly when teams are building applications, processing large amounts of information, or conducting extensive testing. Businesses often discover that adopting one AI platform creates a need—or at least a desire—to experiment with additional tools. Before long, a single AI solution can evolve into a collection of platforms, subscriptions, and integrations throughout the organization.
This expansion can happen surprisingly fast. What begins as a small pilot project can spread across departments as employees discover new use cases and efficiencies. While this can drive innovation, it can also create management, budgeting, and security challenges if not properly monitored.
For this reason, IT and security teams should be involved early in the evaluation and implementation process. They should be informed whenever new AI tools are being introduced into the environment. Many AI applications operate primarily in the cloud, and organizations may not always receive clear notifications about installations, integrations, or data-sharing activities occurring on employee devices and systems.
As AI adoption continues to accelerate, businesses must strike a balance between innovation and control. AI can be an incredibly powerful tool for improving productivity and supporting business growth, but it should not be treated as a replacement for sound management practices, security oversight, or financial accountability.
The organizations that benefit most from AI will be those that approach it strategically—leveraging its strengths while maintaining strong governance, controlling costs, protecting sensitive data, and ensuring that technology remains aligned with business objectives. AI may not eliminate all jobs, but it will certainly change how many of them are performed. Companies that adapt thoughtfully will be better positioned to succeed in the years ahead.
