If you are in IT one of the last things you might want to consider is how to reduce your company’s ecological footprint, but by doing an excellent job of controlling your data environment, you can help the company help the planet. You can reduce your usage of the electricity and equipment by archiving data and by rightsizing your environment. Rightsizing includes investigating forgotten applications and data storage that you are still running and maintaining and then get rid of those that are superfluous. It also means matching environments so that they can interact more cohesively. You can also look at the old hardware and recycle, re-use or restore it for your current needs.  Think about this: by doing your job well and saving your company money, you can help keep our planet’s air, dirt, and water clean.  What do you think about this?
